A moored ship motion analysis in arbitrary harbor geometry with various directional incident waves

초록본문(Abstract) A mathematical model of a moored ship motion in a harbor requires an accurate description of the harbor geometry, bathymetry and an incident wave phenomenon associated with diffraction, refraction and reflection. A moored ship motion is described and then analyzed with the six different modes, i.e., surge, sway, heave, roll, pitch and yaw motion. Further, a solution of the Helmholtz equation is given by Green’s identity formula and then utilized to determine the linear responses of various directional incident waves in the context of the shallow water waves. A moored ship motion analysis is conducted with respect to wave periods in six different modes at the specific record point in the harbor with complex geometry. To improve the numerical accuracy, the corner angle coefficient is firstly determined at each corner segment on the boundary of the harbor and then corner contribution on the boundary is imposed by multiplying the corner angle coefficient to the boundary wave function. Further, Chebyshev angular discretization is utilized to access the improved accuracy at the sharp corners on the harbor boundary in the numerical process. A comparison study with previously well known models such as Sawaragi (1989) and Takagi (1994), is conducted to verify the effectiveness of our simulation results in the moored ship motion analysis. This numerical scheme is analyzed in terms of the wave surface amplitude (or height) near the moored ship area with the ship size of 150,000 DWT (Dead Weight Tonnage) inside the PNH (Pohang New Harbor), which is located in Pohang city, South Korea. The cause and countermeasure has been discussed to subjugate the resonance for moored ship motion in a harbor with complex geometry.
