초록본문(Abstract) In this study, the mechanical ventilation system model in the passenger compartment was developed to lowering down the air temperature inside the passenger compartment when a car is parked in an open space during a sunny day. This paper describes three dimensional (3D) steady state of simulations results of air temperature distributions inside the passenger compartment with the existing of mechanical ventilation system during parking in the sunny day. The computational fluid dynamic (CFD) method is applied in this analysis, where software FLUENT 6.3 is used to simulate the air flow inside the passenger compartment with the existing of mechanical ventilation system. The validation of the numerical simulation is done by comparing the simulation results of average air temperature inside the passenger compartment with actual data measured by an experimental work when the car is parked in the sun from 12 - 3 pm. Predicted data shows a good agreement with a measured data, with a discrepancy of 1.5 $\%$. The validated numerical simulation was used to perform a parametric study to investigate the effects of shape and area of mechanical ventilator towards air flow pattern and average air temperature inside the passenger compartment. The simulation results reveal that placing a rectangle shape of the mechanical ventilator on the rear dashboard able to reduce the air temperature inside the passenger compartment by 7 $^\circ$C which is 4.3 $\%$ better compared to a circular shape of the mechanical ventilator. Increasing the area of the mechanical ventilators suggests the best performance of all cases which is the air temperature inside the passenger compartment is reduces by 8 $^\circ$C compared to the car with no mechanical ventilation system.
