초록본문(Abstract) The documented history of Nepal is traced back to the Licchavi period that dates back to 300 A. D. In the history of Nepal, the Licchavi period is taken as 300 A. D. to 800 A. D. The findings in this article are based on the study of more than 80 inscriptions out of a total of 200 inscriptions found so far related to that period. The inscriptions were carved, mainly, on the stone slabs, stone pillars and metallic objects that were found in and around Kathmandu Valley. The scripts and the language used during that time were not unique. It seems that these numbers have originated from Brahmi script and Sanskrit language. Accordingly, several numerals were used. This led to the various interpretations of the same number. This article explores the various numerals used in that period and also tries to work out a system for writing large numbers with these numerals. The significance of the place value and the use of zero are also discussed.
