| 초록본문(Abstract) | Gauss sums and Gauss periods are important and fundamental objects and tools in number theory and arithmetical geometry. The explicit determination of Gauss sums, equivalently explicit determination of Gauss period, is a meaningful but difficult problem. Since the age of C. F. Gauss, many studies have been done, however, only a few case that Gauss sums or Gauss periods can be explicitly determined. The aim of this talk is to present how to explicitly determine the Gauss sums, as well as the corresponding Gauss periods, in index 2 and 4 cases. Moreover, we will also introduce several applications of Gauss sums and Gauss periods in combinatorics, coding theory and cryptography. |
