기상계에는 rms(root mean square)를 척도로 쓰고 있다.

Title: Singularities and syzygies of secant varieties of nonsingular projective curves In recent years, the equations defining secant varieties and their syzygies have attracted considerable attention. In this talk, we consider secant varieties of smooth projective curves. We show that the degree of the embedding line bundle of a curve of genus g is greater than 2g+2k+p, then the k-th secant variety of the curve has normal Du Bois singularities, is arithmetically Cohen--Macaulay, and satisfies the property N_{k+2,p}. In addition, the singularities of the secant varieties are further classified according to the genus of the curve. This is joint work with Lawrence Ein and Wenbo Niu. |
Title: Conformal rigidity of the scalar curvature For asymptotically flat manifolds, there is a very classical rigidity result of the scalar curvature, the positive mass theorem proved by Schoen-Yau and Witten. For a compact smooth manifold (M,g) with a boundary, there have been some studies on the conformal rigidity and non-rigidity of the scalar curvature in the conformal class. It is known that the local information, the sign of the first eigenvalue for a linearized operator of the scalar curvature by a conformal change, determines the rigidity/non-rigidity of the scalar curvature by conformal changes when the scalar curvature is positive. We show how we could eliminate the sign condition of the scalar curvature by a new flattening argument, and that a reversed rigidity of the scalar curvature in the conformal class does not hold by a standard nonlinear elliptic argument |
Title: Maximal estimate for averages over space curves The study of maximal functions has a long tradition in harmonic analysis. The most typical example is the Hardy-Littlewood maximal function whose role in analysis can not be overestimated. The maximal estimates for more singular averages over hypersurfaces have been extensively studied since Stein’s work on the spherical maximal function in 1970’s. However, $L^p$ boundedness of maximal average over submanifolds with codimensions bigger two, as it turns out, is much more involved. No result has not been established until recently. In this talk we consider the maximal operator $M$ which is defined by averages over a smooth space curve with nonvanishing curvature and torsion. We settle the problem of $L^p$ boundedness of $M$. That is to say, we show that $M$ is bounded on $L^p$ if and only if $p>3$. The talk is based on recent joint work with Hyerim Ko and Sewook Oh.

Among them, people have long studied symplectic fillings of the link of a normal surface singularity. Note that the link of a normal surface singularity carries a canonical contact structure which is also known as the Milnor fillable contact structure. |

Title: Discontinuous Galerkin methods with Lagrange multipliers for elliptic problems In this talk, we consider the high order discontinuous Galerkin method with Lagrange multipliers (DGLM) for elliptic problems. The Lagrange multiplier is introduced on each edge/face via definitions of a weak divergence and a weak derivative for the method. Stability and error estimates for DGLM are investigated, and a criterion for boundary treatment is proposed to capture sharp boundary layers. Several numerical experiments are presented to demonstrate the theoretical results and to test performance of the DGLM. Recently, we study an iterative solver which is localized. This solver is comparable to the direct solver if the initial guess is sufficiently close to the solution. This is joint work with prof. Mi-Young Kim (Inha Univ.) and Dr. Jaemin Shin (Yonsei Univ.) |

Title: Recent Advances in Domain Decomposition Methods for Total Variation Minimization Total variation minimization is standard in mathematical imaging and there have been numerous researches over the last decades. In order to process large-scale images in real-time, it is essential to design parallel algorithms that utilize distributed memory computers efficiently. The aim of this talk is to illustrate recent advances of domain decomposition methods for total variation minimization as parallel algorithms. Domain decomposition methods are suitable for parallel computation since they solve a large-scale problem by dividing it into smaller problems and treating them in parallel, and they already have been widely used in structural mechanics. Unlike problems arising in structural mechanics, energy functionals of total variation minimization problems are in general nonlinear, nonsmooth, and nonseparable. Hence, designing efficient domain decomposition methods for total variation minimization is a quite challenging issue. We describe various existing approaches on domain decomposition methods for total variation minimization in a unified view. We address how the direction of research on the subject has changed over the past few years, and suggest several interesting topics for further research. |

Title: Local limits of random graphs In this talk we will discuss some classical and recent results on local limits of random graphs. It is well known that the limiting object of the local structure of the classical Erdos-Renyi random graph is a Galton-Watson tree. This can nicely be formalised in the language of Benjamini-Schramm or Aldous-Steele local weak convergence. Regarding local limits of a random planar graph, there is a smooth transition from a Galton-Watson tree to a Skeleton tree (also known as Kesten's tree). |
