O

People of Korea has long been interested in science and mathematics. During the settlement and the development of mathematics in her history there emerged several scholars who contributed greatly in the field. In this session we focus on our mathematician forefathers to discuss the turning points in the history of mathematics.

Machine Learning & Partial Differential Equations

정재훈

Machine learning (ML) techniques have become an important methodology in various areas of science and engineering. In just the past few years, the combined study of ML and PDEs have become an active area of mathematical research. ML approaches provide new insights into solution methods of PDEs and PDEs similarly help us to better understand ML principles. That is, ML algorithms not only provide a new methodology for solving PDEs, but also take inspiration from PDEs for improvement. ML also helps us to find hidden PDEs underlying natural phenomena. This session will introduce the recent progress of ML techniques for solving PDEs and data-driven PDEs through ML.

In this focused session, we present mathematical works of the late John F Nash, who was a winner of the Nobel prize in Economic Sciences in 1994 and the Abel prize in 2015We will discuss his contribution to the C1 isometric embedding theorem and its recent application to Euler's equations, and also his contribution to Hilbert's 19th problem.

● 특별세션 (Special Sessions) 발표

Each session is composed of a series of talks on a specific topic in any area of the mathematical science. Special Session and Contributed Talk will be respectively timetabled in a concurrent time slot. Talks are invited in any area of the mathematical science, with acceptance at the discretion of the organizers. If your talk falls under the heading of one of the special sessions already listed, please contact one of the session organizers before submitting an abstract, as special sessions have limited time slots.

In recent decades, symplectic geometry has gained attention and grown up as one major research area in geometry and topology.

The cornerstones are holomorphic curves and Lagrangian submifolds, and the harmony of these leads us to another aspect of mathematics. In this special session, we have a taste of symplectic geometry along the bond between holomorphic curves and Lagrangian submifolds. We share the geometry of ingredients and the key recipes of Mirror Symmetry.
